New Member, New to the chicken world, seeking advice re chicken coop and chicken types for eggs :)

Aloha all,
I am just in the early thinking stages of chickens. My neighbor moved and I miss her and her eggs. I have a chocolate lab who is gentle and will not harm the chickens. I compost, have an aquaponic system to raise lettuce and love my little area of nature. My neighbor is on board to becoming educated in the chicken realm. We're thinking of buying a chicken coop kit on line and building it unless any of you have any better ideas. I think we can have four chickens. Is there any advice you all would like to give a chicken neophyte?

Hi, Roni, and welcome to BYC. Generally on line coop kits are somewhat less than satisfactory. How about buying a garden shed and refurbishing it for chickens ?

Orpington are good egg layers and are fairly docile.
