Hi all!!! Just joined and I am really excited to learn all kinds of good info about raising chickens. I don't have any yet because of where we live. DH is trying to move us to south Tx and if we do, we will be able to buy a place with a yard bigger than a postage stamp!!

Glad you joined the flock, Welcome to BYC. You may want to join the Texas state thread to get to know what you will be facing (climate, predators, etc.) as well as learning which areas allow chickens. Just put state name in the search box and it will pop up.

Hi and

- great that you have joined us. It's great that you are doing some research before your big move - tell hubby to get his finger out!

. There's lots of info in the learning centre, and as DD says, the Texas state thread would also be a good way to get in touch with future BYC neighbours. I'm sure you will have many questions to ask, so don't be shy - we are a friendly bunch and like to help each other out as much as possible.

All the best

Thanks, I didn't even know that there were state threads. See, I'm learning new stuff already! BTW, the chicken in my pic was not mine. She was my folks chicken, the dearly departed Henny Penny. She just showed up out of the blue one day and decided that the garage was a great place to live. They never could find out who she belonged to. That town is only 1500 people, if that. It did not take long to ask everybody if they were missing a chicken. So she stayed and laid an egg almost every day. Since my parents never did get around to building her a coop she was free range (except when she snuck in the house). My DD spent her whole summer vacation at my parents and got her from half wild to more gentle than the old bloodhound. Sadly Henny Penny lost a race with a truck after three years there. My DD is one of the main reasons why I want to get chickens. She loved that hen more than any pet we have ever had.

Sounds like your DD is a natural at keeping chickens, I hope you can move and get some soon. It's great when the whole family is involved, plenty of fun and work for everyone.

Make yourself at home here. Thanks for joining us!
