Hey, I was told to introduce myself. I'm Arthur K., a new chicken owner.

My family and I just recently got chickens about 5 weeks ago at the time of this writing (They were born May 17, 2017). It's our first time raising chickens at all, or any animal outside of the traditional dog or cat.

We currently have 6 chickens, 3 Buff Orpingtons and 3 Rhode Island Reds. They live in our back yard right outside our backdoor, just far enough that we can see the coop, but not the chicks themselves.

When we were first thinking of getting chickens, we didn't really know much about raising them. Irresponsibly, my parents jumped on getting some and we put together the coop we had previously got soon after.

I started looking online for tips on exactly how to raise them humanely, and time after time, I kept seeing this site popping up on Google with tons of info that looks pretty reputable. Since this seems to be the biggest website on chickens with thousands of people on it, I created an account to get some help.

Some info about me:
I was born in 2002, and currently live in two separate houses, going to high school. I generally stay at home during the summer, so I'll be able to work on it from July - September. Next year (2017-2018) and possibly the years after (haven't even thought that far ahead yet) I'll be homeschooling half the time at the house with the chicks, so I can work on them a little bit during the week too.
My other pets (at the time of this writing) are 1 black cat and 1 small (~20 lb) dog, a terrier mix. We live in a suburban(ish?) area outside a small town in central Vermont, and don't have many cars passing through that regularly.

Thanks for reading! I hope this wasn't too lengthy, sorry if it is. Again, I know a bit about chickens from reading up on them, but for something like this, the best teacher you can have is the experience itself, so I would say I'm just a newbie.

Thanks again!
