I am here and eager to learn.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Definitely new to chickens

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
None - planning on starting raising them this year... specifically Silkies.

(3) What breeds do you have?

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Not sure yet... seems like it would be fun

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Golf, guitar, horses.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My wife and I moved to a 10 acre slice of heaven about 10 years ago, mainly for her horses. The kids are all grown and on their own. My wife is interested in raising Silkies, and I want to help out in any way I can. Seeing as I will be building the coop and any other items that will be needed, I want to learn what I can from those with experience.

I am an electrical engineer by trade, but I like to build things with my hands.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

Why, Google, of course. I joined to find answers to questions that we have. Seeing as everyone seems to have subtly differing opinions on just about every aspect of raising chickens, I want to listen to those with experience and do what seems to make sense to me.

Welcome to our flock, I’m new to chickens also and can tell you this is a great place to read and learn. There are many knowledgeable people here and loads of information.
