Hi there!
I've been on this website a few times but realised I really need to join too!
We got 6 lovely hybrid chickens at start of May 2020. They are not free roaming (well I guess none are in UK due to current DEFRA rules) but they have a good size coop with hardwood wood chips. They seem pretty happy and no issues in the flock.
One of our girls, Queenie (& my favourite), has a prolapsed vent and I have been trying to treat it. It happened on Friday. We have bathed her, put diluted antiseptic on the area and the prolapse vent and on Friday we used honey too. I saw the British Hen rescue charity recommends sudacrem so we used that yesterday and today. It has scabbed over so I'm waiting for the scab to finish healing and drop off before trying to reinsert the prolapsed vent.
Queenie hasn't eaten much (corn and maize mix) although she enjoyed some probiotic yoghurt earlier. She is moving around but she is clearly uncomfortable and when I touch the area she is in pain. Is there something I can give her for the pain which I can obtain easily? Local vets don't deal with chickens apparently. I saw somewhere someone recommending alka-seltzer and someone else recommending tiny bit of aspirin. Can anyone help?
Many thanks,
Amaltheia
