Many breeds would probably work well for you. In particular, though, I recommend Wyandottes, Australorps, Plymouth Rocks, Easter Eggers (or Ameraucanas), Orpingtons, and Sex-links. All of those breeds tend to be beautiful, docile birds that are hardy and lay plenty of colored eggs. Most of them lay brown eggs, but the Easter Eggers/Ameraucanas would fill your basket with pretty blue, green, or pink eggs.

Awesome! Thanks for the help. Those are some of the breeds I've been looking at. My girls want the Easter Eggers. Maybe after I get the hang of this I'll try those.
