Hello,

I am a native south-floridian new to chicken keeping. I work as an instrument man for a surveying company. Also, we are new home owners as of November 2019 (So stuff is just starting to break now). I have two children, a very patient husband, and a very jealous black persian cat. Now for my chickens...

My mother was done with chickens and she gave me all her supplies & coops three weeks ago. I also inherited her two chickens. Lorpy, the Australorp, was rescued from a dollar store parking lot, had been roaming for weeks. And Scabbars, the Barred Rock, who was given to my mother two years ago. She is currently recovering from a hawk attack/flight that occurred two months ago. Doing good so far.

I have 6 new additions this spring; Two Noir Marins and four Black Australorp pullets almost 2 weeks old.

I am obsessed with these beautiful/sassy/goofy creatures. I spend most my free time trying to balance my responsibilities with reading books on chickens and observing my chickens behavior.

I joined this site after being directed here via search engine multiple times to answer my questions.

Thank you BackYardChickens.com and BYC community

Sounds like your life is full of adventures -- a new home, rescued chickens, new chickens. It's a wonder you have time for a job! (I'm retired and wonder now how I ever had ANY time to take care of what mattered -- like the chickens and other critters)

It's great that in addition to BYC, you also have your mom's experience to help guide you. Keep enjoying your new chicken addition and welcome to the group!
