Southwestern PA, Flock since 5/2011
Hello from PA. It has been chilly so far this spring, so I'm still waiting on my instant flock from the in-laws. We converted a shed in our backyard to a chicken coop. I posted in the coop design what we have done to make a lovely (not neccessarily pretty) home that will be warm in the winter and cool in the summer!
My handle name is fuzziecreatures because I have a few. 3 dogs, all mixed breeds each 3 years apart. 6yrs, 3yrs and 4mos. I also have 3 ferrets, one is older at about 5 years the other 2 are only 1 year. I have 2 sons who are excited to help with the chickens. My youngest volunteered to water the chickens daily, the oldest will be helping with the weekly to bi-weekly cleaning (don't know how often we will need to clean it). My dh was the one with the original idea of chickens last year. Now he's brought up the idea of getting some goats, I'd be looking forward to less mowing.

Our chickens, 2 hens and their brood, will be ready to come home soon. We have everything ready for their homecoming and I'm getting impatient. Once we see how many babies we have, I want to get a rooster chick. I don't want any issues with inbreeding. I have an older "small animal" cage from when we got our ferret from a classmate that I plan on using for a brooder/isolation since it can be cleaned easily afterwards.
