(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am brand new to owning chickens and ducks. I purchased 12 chicks and 4 ducklings from my local supply store at the beginning of spring.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I currently have 32 chickens and 4 ducks, my original 12 is now 11 and one has begun laying eggs. 1 of my ducks is a drake and 1 female has begun laying. MY FIRST EGGS!
(3) What breeds do you have?
Chickens: RIR, Wyandottes, Rocks, Orpingtons, Ameraucanas, Whiting True Blue and Green, and one unknown feather footed chick.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Internet searches for something along the lines of "what the heck am I doing??"
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Just purchased a hobby farm, started writing fiction, and exploring the beautiful state of Maine.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My husband and I just retired and are also recent empty nesters. On our new hobby farm we have the chickens, ducks, 3 beehives, and 2 dogs. My ten year old Aussie loves "doing chores" and is mother to all the birds.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
