Welcome. I think your speckled sussex is a girl. I have one SS hen and two SS roosters. Watch out for your SS hen. They are so sweet and kind that they get picked on.

Mine was skittish also. They try to be "friends" with everyone but quickly realize that is not the "chicken" way. She will probably end up being a loner like my Lucy is.

These two SS that I have aren't nearly as sweet as the Orpingtons. I hope that changes.
