HI y'all,

I have a backyard flock of 3 RIRs and 3 Ameraucanas. They are about 16 months old and into their second laying cycle. One of my Ameraucanas lays eggs with big calcium (?) deposits on the pointy end. Overall most of the eggs, from both breeds, seem thinner and more delicate than they have been previously. Any advice? They eat Layena pellets and lots of weeds/garden excess.

Thanks a bunch, Julia Newton

they may not be getting enough calcium, you can either hard boil some eggs and grind up (shell and all) and feed back or add some oyster shell to their feed. I try to keep both oyster shell and grit available at all times in the coops of my layers, they will usually consume it as needed.

Thanks, I will try that. I'm always looking for something new and exciting to buy at the hardware store anyway.

Julia
