How long after putting hen in a pen with rooster will the eggs be fertile? I recently got hen for my bantam cochin and want to hatch some chicks. Thanks for any info

Hello Matt and welcome to BYC!

Hens can be fertile pretty quick after mating. If you are wanting to collect eggs for hatching, I would wait a couple of days of mating to make sure most of her eggs get fertilized. Not every egg will be fertile. If your roo is mating with many hens, it's best to wait a 1 to 2 weeks before collecting to make sure all hens have been mated with.
