Hii — so happy I have found you. I volunteer for Committee to save the Bird Homestead in Rye, NY. It is a small intact farm on the Blind Brook estuary on the LI Sound. The farm is somewhat dilapidated but we are working on fixing it up. We have a wonderful 19th century chicken coop that we have cleaned and are reinforcing the floor.

We are having a fund raiser on Sept 22 to highlight the uniqueness of this property and I would like to have some chickens for the evening to show what we are planning in the future.

Does anyone know of 1) someone with chickens who would travel to the event and bring some chickens. We could provide the fencing. 2) an expert to talk about the importance of small local farms?

I know this is a lot to ask — and feel free to tell me if this is a terrible idea — but I look forward to all the help this site can give us as we move ahead to get our own chickens.

Thanks
Candace @ Bird Homestead

! Sounds like a very worthy thing you are doing - I hope some in your area can help. Post over in the Where Am I? Where Are You? forum under the New York thread - maybe someone will step up! I wish you well.

I think is is a great idea and would do it myself but it is a little far for me - people have really lost track of where their food comes from. There are a few NY threads, you may want to post on any that apply to your area. good luck.
