Hello All!
I have been reading through as many threads as possible looking for any clue as to what my duck might be struggling with and I can't seem to find the answer.
Here are the details:
Name: Brand New (my 3 year old named him)
Breed: Ancona/Khaki Campbell Mix
Gender: Unknown
Age: 4 weeks
Feed: Unmedicated Starter Crumble
Water: Was doing plain water with Niacin (100mg/gallon) until "he" got sick, then put him on Save-a-chick
Bedding: Straw
Here's what's been happening:
We started with 3 little ducklings (hatched in our incubator). We lost one to unknown causes (no trauma) on Tuesday 5/26. We just found him dead in the brooder box. A week later, another duckling died. He had been to the vet a day earlier and was on Baytril for a sinus infection. The morning I found #2 dead (Friday 6/5), this guy was sitting all hunched down (see photo) in the brooder box. I initially thought he was depressed from losing 2 mates and brought him inside to be closer to us. I tried putting him in the bathtub with warm water and he just floated, perfectly still. He would not drink, move or even lower his head. Later that night, my husband found him belly up, in the crate, unable to right himself. He pulled the little guy out and spent nearly an hour coaxing him to eat and drink. He made it through the night and has continued to eat and drink from raised bowls and gobbles down any treats (worms, slugs, etc) handed to him. He still won't lower his head and is extremely unsteady on his feet. He'll wobble and topple over any time he tries to waddle. He swam a little better yesterday and today but still won't dip his head down. He seems to want to but then stops himself. I can't feel or see any obvious injuries and I can't imagine what could have happened in the brooder box.
Please give me any advice you can!! I am so sad to have lost two already. I don't want to lose this guy too! Thank you!
