New member with duck problem

Hi everyone,
I’m new to this site and I have a problem with my runner ducks.
I have 7 females and 1 drake, last Sunday one of my females was missing I looked for hours and finally found her upstream in the little beck, she refused to come out the water no matter how hard I tried.
I finally got her onto the banking and she was really unbalanced and limping, then my drake started to attack her.
I put her in a separate pen for a few days to try and get her back to normal.
A few days later I put her back with her friends and the next thing I knew the drake was attacking her again!
I have removed the drake and she seems a lot happier but is still isolating herself through the day, she is eating and swimming fine.
I’m worried if I put the drake back she will go back to how she was.
I’ve been to told to get rid of my drake but im not sure what to do. He’s never done this before.
Can anyone help me?

I’m so sorry you’re having this problem with your ducks, but you’re not the only one. It’s breeding season which means your drakes hormones are spiking. Many other members here on BYC use the method of ‘drake jail’ during this season, meaning you keep him separate from the females, but where he can still hear/see them. Best of luck with your ducks and feel free to ask questions.

Are you positive the one being attacked is a female?

I am pretty sure, I haven’t noticed any signs that it’s a drake.
The lady who sold me them said they were all female except the black drake but my females are only around 2 years old and he is older could that be a reason for him to attack her? He has pushing her under the water by her head and pulling her feathers

He is breeding her..is she laying eggs now. He definitely is interested in her. Are the others laying eggs too?

I wish I could but I live on a farm and they have a large field and stream to go in, I would have to keep him somewhere else as all the other huts don’t have runs and the little one I have would be an easy target for the Fox’s that are hanging around I have a friend that can take the female as they have some runner ducks, do you think that would be a better option?
