Any more input for NW Florida? Right now if I had to order I'd go with a combo of Buff Orpingtons, Speckled Sussex, AND EE's!!!

Since I can't decide on just one or two breeds... what do you you guys think about this mix?

Sounds good, and a nice mix you'll have clucking around. I really like a variaty though many love to see just one color out there. The Sussex are going to boss the others around, but that's ok too, someone has to! They'll work it all out!

My Leghorn hens are SOOO friendly and I get an egg every day from them well almost everyday! I live in Central, Florida I also have a RIR (Rhode Island Red) and an Easter Egger.

They all give me eggs just about every day and I have had no problems with any of them but the most friendly is the White Leghorn girls they see my truck come home, and they run to me they like the treat lady!...

Hope that helps!

When I ordered my batch I did not really want White Leghorns because everyone said they were flighty.

However I ended up with two of them and not only do the each lay a large egg everyday, they are also the two friendliest out of my flock of eight.

As soon as anyone goes in the yard they come running to meet you, and if you sit down they will jump in your lap and talk to you. They also rule the roost (hence the names Cagney and Lacey).

Leghorns would do great down south, probably better than here in Northern Illinois.

Good luck and welcome!

We have 13 Dominiques and very cold weather! I had three days (not in a row) where I didn't get any eggs. Yesterday I got 10 eggs and today so far has yielded 9 eggs and one hen was sitting in a nest box last time I went down to chat with them. I don't have a light or any heat in the coop - no electricity in it yet. And friendly is an understatement! I sit down and before I can get comfortable I have at least two hens on my lap and one preparing to fly up to my shoulder for a visit. Two of the hens (Sugar and Star) will go to sleep on your lap. Honey likes to sit on my shoulder and preen herself. Rose wants to go over as much of my coat as she can picking anything like straw from the goats off and making sure I am presentable before I go back out of the coop - she's my fashion chicken! Yes I am addicted. They are my love chickens and I love them to pieces!
