New member with two ducks

RainbowBirds_of_a_Feather: Just yesterday I found a used tennis net so I covered the top with it. I then added a tarp so it is rain proof.

Thanks,

But that is good to insulate the roof cause things can get mucky with duckies...(that kind of rhymed) Again great job with the care you put into your web footed friends!!!

I got the stock tank from Menards, on sale for $46 (this is the 50 gallon version). It should also be sold in Tractor Supply Company, Farm and Fleet, etc. My local TSC's regular price is $67. The 100 gallon one is only about $12 more but it is much deeper.

It is duper durable and won't crack in freezing winters. I have two 300 gallon and another 100 gallon of the same tank for my ponds and they have been in use for over a decade.

I let them out of the pen twice now. They were very curious about the koi pond. The Cayuga accidentally fell in to it (he was too close to it, see picture below). The Pekin duck panically ran to me (I was 50 feet away) and quacking like crazy, as if she wanted to tell me that the other one had an accident. It was very cute.

The cayuga literally "ran" on the pond surface for about 30 seconds and then got back out.

Welcome to the world of ducks! Your Pekin looks to be about 3-4 weeks old? Mine are 3 weeks old and you can see the flight feathers just coming in on the wings. Keep your eye on them in the pool as they can get water logged pretty easily.

We have a similar set up with dog kennels. My husband cover the bottom 4 feet with hardware cloth (smaller openings) because we have issues with raccoons and weasels.

Enjoy your babies!

Hey! Thanks! I had been planning on digging out a pond for my duckies last summer but realized it wouldn't be a possibility due to the layers of gravel underneath so this looks like the perfect alternative!!
