Hi everyone...Im just starting out..I have my coop...and have decided on the red sex-link chicken.I am only using them for eggs. I want to purchase young chickens ready to lay..Im not equipped for chicks.. How do I purchase these.

Welcome to BYC!!!

There are several options for purchasing coop ready birds - you can source them from some hatcheries, but the expense will be considerable as the price to purchase and ship birds at that age is much higher than that of day-old chicks. A better option for you, cost wise, would be to find someone near you who has birds they are wanting to sell. Where are you located? You can find other members here on BYC who are in the same area by posting to the "where are you/where am I" area - you may also find poultry groups for your area on Facebook and you can find birds for sale on Craigslist.

Welcome! Ol Grey Mare has given excellent suggestions. you might check and ask around at your local feed stores as well. They can be a resource for local breeders. After you have 20 posts, you can also post in https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/67/buy-sell-trade Best of luck to you and keep us updated!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. You might also try typing the area in which you live in the search bar at the top of the page and inquire on some of the local threads in your area if anyone has or knows of any Red Sex Link chickens for sale. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.

Welcome to Backyard chickens, hope you are able to find the hens you are seeking.

I have 3 RSL girls in my mixed flock and originally I selected them for their egg laying abilities but they have turned out to be some of the most fun chickens ever! They are curious, alert, ornery little girls that are always into something...they keep us laughing every day at something they do.

I hope when you find some, you enjoy them as much as we do!
