hi everybody,
I am exited to be a new member on this group. I am just at the beginning of becomming a chicken lady. I started off with a few hens and a roo of barnyard mix, for eggs, but now i'm hooked. I am working on getting a proper flock together. I particularily like the laced and penciled birds.
I Am in Alaska, so its a bit more challenging to get what i'm looking for.

Nice to have you join us. We started out with 5 production reds (sold as RIRs) and decided we wanted more birds with different colors too. Pretty to look at and now can easily tell them apart without having to get up right beside them.

Have seen a few other members from Alaska on here too. Hope you are able to find the breeds you are hunting for.

so glad you have joined us.

I have limited experience, but think the laced Wyandottes are very cold hardy?

Good luck in your adventure and in the search for the breeds you want.

**and I really don't envy your winter weather there

Welcome to Backyard chickens!! I hope you enjoy it and the camaraderie here and everybody that goes nuts over chickens (me being one of them....) Have fun! And ask questions! I really like the laced and penciled birds as well! Wyandottes would be a great choice for you, they are cold hardy, beautiful, and are fairly good layers! What part of Alaska are you from? I have a Aunt, Uncle, 2 cousins and 1 more on the way and they live in Fairbanks.

Nice to meet you Kat, hope you will enjoy BYC as much as we do. If you put "Alaska thread." in the search box it will come up for you.
