Hello, all! I am fairly new to raising Chickens but I am enjoying them a lot. We started with 6 in the fall of '15. We lost one over the winter, not sure why and in early spring lost another to a Hawk. This past Sept we lost 2 more, at different times to a Fox. We since have added a Rooster and 5 more chicks. We now have 9 of different ages and types. Started with the ISA Brown and the ones we added are Barnvelders and the others are Marans.
The pic below was when the little ones first went into the coop.

Thanks for including some pictures in your intro...always fun to see someone else's flock!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!!

I am so sorry for your losses! It is never easy to lose them and yes, predators are everywhere!! Build the coop like fort knox...if you are comfortable sleeping in there, the birds will be safe. Watch them closely when free ranging and if you do have lots of issues during the day, use electric fencing, guard dogs or like I do, supervise them while outside.

Good luck and we do welcome you to our roost! :)
