We let our chicks range all around the house, barn, and coop and they don't seem to wonder far. The little ones we haven't let out of the coop yard as of yet. Want to make sure they know that it is home. The coop is very secure at night and we when we lost our girls to the predators it was during the day. That is why I added the rooster, Cogburn, hoping this will help. So far, so good. They have been great keeping down the bugs! We do have two dogs that love to be outside but they like to be in the house as well. When they are out they know that the chicks are family. Have also been playing a radio on a "talk" station so there is always some "human" noise. We do live in a rural area on 40 acres and butt up on two sides to National forest. Lots of wildlife around. Thanks for all the welcomes!
