(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I got my first two chickens (White Leghorns)in March of 2015 at the urging of a daughter who had chickens, and as she put it, "I have everything you need to start."
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? Now I have nine hens. My daughter and I bought some from an online hatchery in the fall of 2016.

(3) What breeds do you have? Beside the two Leghorns (Betty and Thelma Lou), I have two Rhode Island Reds (Lucille and Rosa), two Golden Laced Wyandottes (Babette and Suzette), one Barred Rock (Dorcas), one Light Brahma (Lisette), and one Easter Egger (Mo).

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? I enjoy reading about other people's experiences with raising chickens.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I enjoy reading, baking, gardening, making jewelry, watching sports with my family, and having teas with my friends.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I am a homeschooling mother of seven. Four of my children still live at home, and I am still teaching the youngest two, 15 and 13 year old boys. My boys are active in baseball, hunting and skeet shooting, so a good bit of our time is spent watching them. Outside of the daughter who encouraged me to take up keeping chickens (she lost all of hers in a flood) none of my other children are currently interested in them. All of them, except the two youngest, have dogs as pets. When we can, my husband and I enjoy sitting outside watching 'the girls'.

We love to sit outside and watch our girls too. So fun!
