After you get comfortable with chickens, I highly recommend trying some heritage turkey(s) they are a lot like feathered dogs.

I was thinking about it. I do have a lot of wild turkey on the property though. I wasn't sure if they would be a problem trying to breed with the pet turkey.

I've got about 50 or so wild turkeys on my property. With a couple of exceptions there's little interaction. My wild hens will bring their babies to my lower pasture where my babies are. My babies always waste feed and get moved every couple days. So the wilds get a 24% protein mix for free. there are times when mine and the wilds will talk. I generally find it entertaining. I did have one nari defect and I found her poults a couple days ago. Not sure where she is. But she definitely mated with a wild.

We have 18 acres but 16 acres is wooded with logging roads. So we have an area we call turkey grove. All the wild turkey perch on trees there. It's quite something when they take off flying over head. They are amazing to watch.
