Welcome to BYC from middle Tennessee :frow Thanks for rescuing them...:hugs I hate when people abandon animals.
It does take a really cold and crappy person to leave animals behind to fend for themselves, that is for sure! I will never understand why people get animals if they don't want them and these chickens are just a few months old.

When my daughter got rid of her first husband, he abandoned his outdoor cat at my place. When my daughter moved on and married again, we kept the cat. We fed it, gave it good electrically heated housing, shots, etc. When we moved to TN, I spent three nights out there trying to catch it and put it in a carrier so she could move to TN with us. Finally succeeded. It would have been easy to just abandon her--but not right. When we got to TN and I opened the carrier, she took off and we didn't see her for about a week--but a week later she was back and ready to move back into her heated house and not happy about leaving the deck.

Welcome to Byc you will love it here to me it seems like a second home or a educational party or even an Online Poultry Shows anyone here will help you if u need it itsa great place to be so again :welcome

and then just dump them. At least they could find a proper home when they do the "dumping". These ones have been lucky having you to step in and care for them, that's for sure.
I'm going to try. I have never had chickens before but I'm very animal experienced so it can't be too hard. I think the chickens decided they wanted to live on our 18 acres instead of the little yard they came from. Lol They just walked in my house one day like they were checking it all out. Surprised the contractors working on the house. Lol

So glad it worked out for your cat! I worked cat rescue for 11 years and so many are dumped. I have a cat currently that was abandoned and then my mother took him in and abandoned him. Lol
He'll be with me for the rest of his life that's for sure!

After you get comfortable with chickens, I highly recommend trying some heritage turkey(s) they are a lot like feathered dogs.:wee
