We started back up with chickens about 1 year ago. We had a few when we lived in a cooler climate but have heard we could have them in a hot climate as well. We have learned so much more this last year than we ever had known before. Thanks to the internet and groups like this. Finally decided to be a member. We only want the eggs as I have trouble eating the chickens because I make them into pets too much. We mostly had Rhode-island Red's and I believe we had Aricana's. Now we have Delawares and Americana's. Please forgive miss spellings of these birds. I've become very impressed with the help you provide. Thank you for now and the future.

I use to show Dogs and my kennel name was Snowkap and that is my handle for here.

Welcome Snokap- what breed of dogs? Lots of dog breeders/trainers/handlers on BYC.
I used to breed & show Cockers from late 60's to 1980 & groomer as well.

Generally chickens handle cold MUCH better than heat. You could post on your state thread and see what breeds they recommend for heat.

My first breed was Samoyeds. A truly awesome breed but a lot of work. I no longer have the back and movement ability to work on that coat so it is not fair to them to have one now. I showed from about 1971 to somewhere in early 20's. Showed for almost 40 years. I got interested in Australian Shepherds some time ago and stopped show them at same time due to the fact I couldn't get around like I use to but I have one now and they are much easier to take care of and my husband will help me with them. The one I have now is not from the original line I started with which had awesome personality's. They were actually easy to live with but this new one is a true Aussie where he is busy, busy, busy, but he is quite entertaining and is a sweet heart. I started training him to be with the baby chicks we got and he loves them and they get along quite well. He likes to get them flying but he will not hurt them. No mouthing of them at all and they chickens seem to like him as well. I missed a great pic.l of one of them riding on his back.
Thank you for asking.
These chickens are ok for hot weather but even then it is just really hot. We also have a 3 " swimming pool that they like to wade in. I caught one laying down in it. Surprised me.

I didn't know there was a state group. How would I go about finding them?
