[Manda's ladies]

i started keeping chickens when we bought a small holding after having done 30 years at the chalk face (teaching). I have got eight chickens who live in a beautiful coop and run which my husband made. They are a mix of breeds one Americuana and the rest are hybrids. They have pelleted food on demand and treats every afternoon - usually wholemeal bread and veg but they also adore chips pizza and garlic bread. ( not every day !)They like most "soft" food. The only meat they get is mealworms- apart from these they are vegetarian. We give them poultry spice and apple vinegar and worm powder once a month. We buy them from a reputable small farm and my husband cleans them out every day so up to now we have avoided red mite and we are in our third year.
