:welcomeWelcome!! I have learned so much from the folks here. Lots of seasoned chicken keeper veterans here. I have been at it for 8 years now and am still learning.

It does not sounds like your birds are molting they are a but too young. Feathers picking sounds more likely, what is your set up like? Maybe they just need a scooch more room.

Welcome again! You will love it here.

I will Post pictures as soon as I get home. There’s only one chicken that doesn’t have feathers missing. Some have big bald spots. I hope there’s nothing wrong. I try to read about possible problems. I’m a bit overwhelmed.

See the bare spots. I noticed that the black one who has all her feathers pecks at all of them. Could she be doing all that damage? I cleaned the one chickens wounds with peroxide and then put green goo on her. I hope this helps. I may buy saddles for them.

You setting looks really nice. It can be overwhelming at first but it gets better. Chickens are relatively easy to take care of. But at first when it's new it can seem very overwhelming.

If you have looked at them and do not see evidence of mites or lice we can look at other things. Such as their diet, make sure that you feed them a complete poultry feed design for chickens.

Also, look at their behavior. You may have a bully hen. I have one that from time to time gets a bad case of pms and I have to separate her from the flock to allow her to cool off. If this is your situation you need to take her out because she will cause the other hens to be stressed. Keep her isolated for a while. Doing so deprives her of status thus curbing her behavior. Long enough to let the pecking order reset so she is introduced at the bottom of the order. This method works very well for my hen who can take pecking order a bit too far.

Hello. My name is Rebecca. I live in central New Jersey. I am new to having chickens. I have 7 Right now. I don’t really know their breeds. We got them at Tractor Supply and they said 3 of them were red sex linked, 2 black jersey giants and 2 black and white chickens. Maybe someone can help me find out what they are. The chickens aren’t a year old yet and I believe they are molting. I think it’s too soon but not sure. I’ve checked for mites and lice but I don’t see any. It also looks like they are pecking each other. They started laying eggs in September. Ugh so much going on. Hopefully this board can help me in my journey.

The links are great!

The links should talk about it but I would send in a poo sample for a float test to check for worms. I would also pick up a bag of calf manna. There are directions on the bag for mixing it into the feed.

Usually feather picking is a sign of protein deficiency

Throw away the scratch and give them the calf manna in their feed like I suggested above. Also cut the table scraps. They should only get the amount of treats a day that they can eat in about 10 minutes.

Corn Scratch is bad for them. It is like sugar to a diabetic

So I sometimes give them cooked oatmeal with apples or bananas and sometimes raisins. Is that ok for a treat? Where can I get calf manna?
