Hello, and thank you for welcoming me. I live in Ohio. We had chickens many years ago and would like to get back into them. Looking to purchase ten or so chicks when they become available. I have a barn but need to construct something that they can be outside in, that would keep them safe from predators. Was wondering about one of those portable chicken coops that one can move around the property to fresh areas for them. Thoughts? Also, I'm worried about the extreme temperatures. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Most chicken breeds can handle cold much better than heat. After all they are wearing "down" coats

I use cattle panel shelters that are easy to move. And no need to worry about heat as there are lots of folks out here from OH that do just fine without it.

I would never use a heat lamp in a coop or tractor, the possibility of a fire is too strong. Check with others in your area to see how they deal with the weather.

Welcome to BYC. Given the proper housing, chickens have few to no problems adapting to weather changes.
