I have had Austorlrops , Light Brahmas, Golden Comets, Barred Rocks, Rhode Island Reds and Buff orpintons in past. I want only birds who are cold hardy plus good layers. Tall order i know.

I have a Black Sex Link/Rhode Island Red mix that is the sweetest in my flock and lays eggs almost daily year round. She was handled and loved the most from hatch, so that might have something to do with her great personality and friendliness as a great pet.

It's definitely better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it.

Also, make sure your coop(s) have a proper amount of VENTILATION. (https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...-there-and-cut-more-holes-in-your-coop.47774/) Your chickens will absolutely thank you for it!
