Hello, I've been learning from this site for a while now but decided to join as my oldest daughter has increased her desire to learn, and maybe show, some of the poultry we have. I am sure I will have questions.

I found these starter questions so here is a bit about me...

(1) We started raising chickens last Spring, and started with a flock of Orpingtons. Most of which went to the freezer but kept a few for eggs. Then I started turkeys, which are currently my favorite poultry to raise. I am hoping to find someone with heritage breeds near me (another reason I joined this site). I think I would really enjoy maintaining my own flock at home.

(2) We currently have 6 laying hens, 5 pullets and a mystery chick, 20 Red Ranger chicks, 2 Broad Breasted Bronze poults, and courtesy of my oldest daughter this past weekend...2 khaki campbell ducklings:)

(3) Of those not listed above...buff orpingtons, white leghorn, isa brown, lakenvelder, silver laced wyandotte, ameraucana, and what I think might be a brown leghorn, but time will tell.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? Google :)

(5) I like to spend all my time outdoors; hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, kayaking, etc.

(6) My wife and I have two daughters, 6 and 9 years old. They enjoy helping with the animals. We have the poultry as listed above, and recently got a few nubian/alpine goat kids as well. We have two dogs, a bunny, and my kids have "their pets" too, one has fish and the other has a parakeet. Every day I am amazed at how much they like to work with their animals!
