In the Brooder
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? A friend and I have been getting chickens every spring at about 12 weeks and using them for dual purpose. Just before winter we butcher for meat. This year I own my home in the country and decided to have chickens year round not for meat. Being as my friend did not want to run lights or electricity out to her hen house, now that I own my place I can do that here.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Currently 4, but 12 more in a couple of weeks.
(3) What breeds do you have? I have 4 dark Brahma's and will have 12 Easter eggers.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? It popped up on my Facebook page one day and I subscribed and liked it.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Currently I have no hobbies. But when I have time I like to paint, craft, or make wooden projects.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. Well it's just my husband and I, we are empty nesters. We have 2 dogs: a golden retriever and a bernese mountain dog. I own my cleaning business so things are busy but I make up my own hours which is nice.
I'm excited to have my own chickens. We are building the coop this weekend and fencing in the area for them. I named their place "Dogwood grove" because we have a small grove of dogwood trees that the chickens will just love scavenging for bugs and worms.
