Hi
I’m new to chickens, due to my son being terrified of dogs and allergic to cats, thought chickens would be a fair compromise to my daughter. Just as I thought she lost interest after a few weeks, they are now daddy’s chicks.

I thought I was purchasing a coop and started shopping after chicks were a month old. Decided to build one instead, needless to say I don’t see how my basement could recover from the mess. (Coop pics to follow).

I have 4. Chicks, born on APRIL 1st. 2 Rhode Island Reds and 2 buff Orpingtons. Hopefully all girls.

We live in New Jersey.

Thanks in advance. I’m sure I will have many questions. I’m starting off with the automatic coop door.

Ravi.

Welcome to BYC!!

@Pork Pie Ken has supplied great links for you to get information you need. The smell on chicks is crazy. How such little things could smell so bad, and make such a mess. But be thankful it wasn't ducklings! I made the mistake of hatching them in winter and had them in the house. :sick

There are a ton of amazing people that are willing to help or answer any questions you may have, or just to chat!

There is also great information in the Learning Center, there are tons of articles covering just about everything you need to know on chickens, and other animals too.

Enjoy!!
