I have had many chickens over the years while living on the farm, but now I have just two backyard girls and have a some questions as it has been a few years since I had them...so this is it. I only have the two girls and they just started laying 4 days ago. not sure if just one but I have been getting a small egg every day. Problem is after the first two days when the eggs were intact I am finding the egg pushed out of the nest and maybe pecked at..not eaten just cracked and a hole in it...never experienced this in the past...can anyone give me some advise to what I should do. Thank you in advance. Brenda

Hi Brenda and welcome to BYC. Assuming that you are feeding layers feed or providing oyster shell / calcium supplement in an additional feeder it may be that the shells are not quite as strong as normal - it can take a while for the girls to get their plumbing sorted for optimum egg laying. A less that regular egg will be happily eaten / investigated (but this could become habitual). Additional info will be provided if you post here - https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/chicken-behaviors-and-egglaying.18/

Best wishes
