I've been raising chickens for about 13 years now with my family, but have been raising them myself for the past few years. I have had up to around 50 chickens at once, but right now I have 22 chickens. I have a wide variety of breeds and have been able to experience all different kinds of chickens. A bit over a year ago my self blue old english bantam hen had laid a bunch of fertilized eggs that hatched 9 hens and 14 roosters even though it was my japanese hen who got broody and hatched some of them. The rest that she didn't lay on were hatched in an incubator inside. They're a mix of my old english and my bantam cochin rooster. I found Back Yard Chickens through all of the research I've done about chickens. This is always the first site to come up and has always been the most useful to me. I joined BYC because even though there is a lot of helpful information on here, I wanted to be able to ask things myself if there's an issue or concern with a chicken and include pictures if needed. Also, I wanted to be able to help anyone if I can with something I might have more knowledge about!
