Hi everyone! My name is Stacie. Several months ago I became a chicken person by accident. While sitting on my back patio a tiny little chickie came wandering through the yard. I asked her "are you lost?", she came closer to me and let me pick her up. She decided not to leave. She apparently had been my neglectful neighbors but quickly decided she was mine. Since I was caught unprepared she more or less lived in my shed for a while. The neighbor kids apparently tried to take her back but she wouldn't stay and they somehow broke the poor things leg. By the time I was aware it was a bit late to do much about it and it healed at an odd angle. It didn't seem to pain her and she still followed my pot belly pig all over. She was so sweet and I was hooked. So, we built a coop and got a couple of Barred Rocks and a Golden Sexlink. That all ended poorly. We lost those to a possum. But, we lost the problem possum to the neighbor (the responsible one not the neglectful one). Back in February we decided to try again. We now have an Ameraucana, Golden Sexlink, Barred Rock and a Production Red. They are so fun to be around, I'm hooked. Still looking for an Olive Egger or Easter Egger but difficult to find in my area.

Welcome to BYC!
Hope you have better luck with this flock. You could check out articles on predator protection to avoid future losses.

Thank you.We are much more vigilant with this little flock and fencing in their run has been strengthened and the coop is most definitely closed at night.
