Not all of them came out to play. In addition to the layers I have 18 pullets and several roosters that I keep separate and only put the one(s) with the hens I want to breed when I'm ready to incubate.
And Lottie the Turkey keeps everyone in line!

Just saw the introduction template and thought that was a great idea, so here goes:

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I grew up around chickens but didn't have much to do with them then. As an adult I first got chickens about 30 years ago but life got in the way and I had to give them away after about 4 years.
Then in 2014 my oldest daughter and my sister, who both had chickens, convinced me I needed them.
I jumped right in and got 25 of them, a mixture of Buff Orpington, New Hampshire Red and Easter Eggers.
Now I'm addicted.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
60+

(3) What breeds do you have?
Buff Orpington (1 hen and she's from my original 25. She's blind in 1 eye and the only one I consider a pet, and 1 rooster), New Hampshire Red (1 hen), Easter Eggers (4 hens, 1 rooster, 11 crosses), Barred Plymouth Rock (6 hens, 1 crossed rooster), Jersey Giant (2 hens, 1 rooster, 3 crosses), ISA Brown (4), Light Brahma (1 hen), Gold Laced Wyandotte (2 hens, 1 rooster), Silver Laced Wyandotte (3), Lavender Orpington (2 hens, 2 roosters) Rhode Island Red (11), White Leghorn (1), Production Reds (5), and Golden Comets (8).

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Chickens are some of the funniest critters around. I love to sit in the yard and just watch them doing chicken stuff.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, canning and preserving, crocheting, sewing.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm married with 4 kids aged 36, 28, 20 and 17. We have 4 dogs, 1 cat, an alpaca, a leopard gecko, a corn snake, 2 axlotls and various fish.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
It's been so long I don't remember specifically, but I was searching for info about chickens and BYC was among the search results.
I joined because of a thread about crossbreed chicken pics.

About 60. I think. Chickens are hard to count.

Where did you say you live? I have never heard of an axlotl. Had to look it up! Amazing creature!

#1 this bird right here is a big reason I love Jersey Giants. She's so floofy and her feathers have an iridescent sheen that is absolutely beautiful.
#2 what's not to like about a Gold Laced Wyandotte? And the Barred Rocks are just so good-natured.
#3 this is Helen, my oldest bird and only pet chicken. In warmer weather she meets me at the henhouse door after a rain, begging to be let out. She follows me around because she knows I'll uncover for her all the worms that have come to the surface.:)
