Welcome to BYC!! :frowI have been raising chickens with my dad @Nifty-Chicken since I can remember. Currently I have 6 chickens. To start a flock it is usually best to get 3... or more 😅 . To answer your question "why 3" Chickens are very social animals, they need each other to keep warm, you will also get a nice flow of eggs. If you only have two then they will most likely get along and be happy together but if one passes then you will be left with one very sad and lonely chickie. If you are planning on getting a third, the sooner the better because chickens form bonds early in life, and It might get harder as they grow up.
