Hi!
I am new here at Backyard Chickens, as well as new to poultry and fowl in general.
I grew up on a beef cattle ranch in Eastern Idaho, went to college, got married, and had four little rascals. My husband, kids and I are just starting a little homestead, and planning on getting about 10 chickens. I also want to get several pairs of ducks, some game birds and a few peafowl.
We’re mostly rural, and live in the corner of a field, just where the pivot doesn’t reach. We have plenty of surrounding land, so we’re hoping to let our birds free range during the day, and then bring them in at night.
I honestly stumbled across Backyard Chickens while google searching for hatcheries in Idaho. Specifically those for peafowl.
My family consists of my husband, two older daughters, 8 and 6, my 2 1/2 year old son, and my 11 month old baby girl. We currently have a dog, Catahoula mix (we think lab, but the identity of her dad is uncertain), named Mariah. We also have a large fish tank, which is currently home to one very tiny goldfish, since all the others got a disease and died off. :-(
I’m excited to learn more about poultry, and get our little homestead started!

:welcome :frow:woot
Welcome Kari, from Georgia, the Poultry capital of the world (2018).. Glad you have joined this chicken crazy board.

Here is a quick link to the articles area, lots of info on this forum, just look around. Also if you have a specific question the search engine (top right) is actually very good..

Fish tanks make good brooders!

It is nice having you here!

Good luck with your homestead, and post pictures along the way if possible.

We love pictures.
Welcome to the backyard!
