I currently have ventured into hatching some white rocks and speckled Sussex eggs. I have a farm innovations incubator the 4250 with the egg turner. This is my first time hatching chickens since the first grade and I plan on using them for dual purposes meat/eggs and pets since hey why not they’re cute.

I purchased these through eBay and had them shipped (in which I know that’s a gamble but I live in PA and could not find anyone near me with eggs.) However, I’m looking for tips tricks and early warnings and what nots to have a better hatch rate and a healthier flock.

My bator is set to 100.0 and reading 100.5ish humidity is 60% egg turner is turning. I’m in day 2 so have a bit of time to go. Can’t wait to candle them and see what’s going on in there.

As far as dual purpose meat/eggs, if you throw in the pets, I think you will find the meat part thrown out and your new dual purpose eggs/pets! Our birds are all in the egg/pets category, even though they're defined as dual purpose breeds. We've only been able to eat a few and that was a pair of nasty roosters and an injured hen that we hadn't quite gotten attached to yet.

i have feeling if we hatch any rooster we to will end up eating them since our borough ordinance doesn't allow roosters in a flock. I heard through the grapevine rooster taste funny. whats your take on it?
 
Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
It's not "if" you hatch cockerels, but "when". They are inevitable. You can also try rehoming them as they are crowing before they are large enough to process.

If they're butchered young and the meat is used in a stew or casserole, they're not bad.
