Hello All,
I am new to this hobby. There are a few people in my neighborhood that raise chickens and it is something that I have always wanted to do. I have raised other livestock and am looking forward to this chapter.
I have just started building my coop. The information on this page is critical to making sure that we are building things right. Next comes getting my chicks. I was thinking on getting Rhode Island Reds or Buff Orpingtons.

Rhode Island Reds are great layers and can stand the heat, but they are not as docile as the buff Orpingtons. Buff Orpingtons are cold hardy and heavier, so They make for a great dual purpose chicken.
