Do you know if the eggs from my chickens are safe to eat if a chicken from my flock has fowl pox. I mean I don’t know what chickens may be infected and not showing symptoms??
The eggs are totally safe to eat, this is not a virus that effects humans. You are not at risk either handling him or your flock.

Thanks TwoCrows, I didn't know know the eggs are safe to eat and not a virus that effects humans. Always learn something new on BYC.
Generally most bacteria and viruses are host specific, you can't give your dog the flu and he can't give you kennel cough. But some cooties are transferable, look at this Corona Virus! Pox however is safe from humans.

Thank you for answering

okay thank you. I’m not trying to sound ridiculous I have raised chickens most of my life and have never had the issues I’m having this year which is now making me question every move. I’m scared of loosing my flock and making my family sick. I really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences and knowledge.

This is true and the way this year has been is just crazy nothing seems to be what It used to be.

Yes he will be contagious when the pox scabs get all weepy, these fluids will transmit the virus. You might keep him separated but around the flock until he heals. If he decides to go off his regular feed, just feed him what ever he will eat to keep weight on. Any simple human food just to keep his energy up too. He can go back to his regular feed once he heals.
Thank you. I think he has gone blind in his eye , he was keeping his right eye closed he opens it occasionally and it was clear yesterday and now it’s milky white. I just hate he is going through this he was raised from an egg and we love him so I truly appreciate you information.

I am sorry he is struggling. :hugs Its never easy to watch them suffer. Foggy eyes can be bacterial infections. I've used Terramycin on birds with an eye infection. It works quite well. As long as you don't live in California, I believe you can still get it over the counter or online.
