Hi all, my husband and I decided to raise chickens about 5 years ago after my daughter was bit by a tick and contracted Lyme disease. She had red bullseye from head to toe. Since then we haven't had many ticks and it's good for our dogs too. Our biggest challenge has been the predators, mostly the hawks that live near by. We've lost a few birds and a large fox chased our flock recently while we were outside with them while they were free ranging. I've learned quite a bit reading from the threads posted and the articles from Backyard Chickens. Look forward to more articles and advice for our chickens.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens!!!! So glad that you can join us! Chickens are great on keeping the ticks down. Have you ever wanted to get Guinea hens? They're the best on ticks! Though Lyme disease is a horrible disease (I know, just about everybody in my family had it) it's a great excuse to get the feathered friends! :D
