So excited to be part of BYC. I got 10 pullets from a local hatchery 1 week ago. We are building a 8x8 coop with a 8x10 run for them. Question is has anyone put hardware cloth down on the ground before you start building? Or do you just do an apron around the coop, or both. Here are pix of our new babies and the progress of the chicky castle

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Beautiful photos, 💗thanks for sharing!

It's best to attach the hardware cloth to something instead of just burying into the ground. You might stop by our Coop And Run Construction forums for more help... https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/coop-run-design-construction-maintenance.9/

Good luck with your build! If you have any questions about your babies along the way, feel free to ask. Welcome to our community!
