Hi I'm a new member from northern California. I do not have any chickens at the moment but have just built a 6x8 hen house with an 18' run in our fairly large backyard. Going to introduce a few layers to get the coop broke in then start to brood my own once they are available locally.

Looking to get a few Buff, americana and barred rocks
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I would love to have chickens number one for the fresh eggs also my children are also really interested in taking on and caring for these birds.
We generally have a yearly garden with lots of fresh goodies that are sometimes not always used and thought why waste when we can treat our pets.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Love to work outside, lots of DIYs
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have 4 children, 2 polydactyl tabby cats, I work as an industrial mechanic/Fabricator/installation supervisor
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I did some searching for a chicken commuity forum and this was the highest rated
