Hello All!
I'm a brand new chicken mom, and as such often landed on this site when searching questions on google. GREAT resource so I decided to join the community.

My chicken home is in the Northwoods of WI. We've been building for the last 5 years (not a contractor... my hubby and I with our 4 hands). We are now at the point where we are moving in, this is our final home. SO EXCITED... and now I feel comfortable starting my flock.

Chickens aren't our first birds... we have 2 macaws that are over 20 yrs old. Sweet Pea a military macaw and then Excedrin a scarlett macaw and a total jerk to me but loves my hubby unconditionally. I find the similarities extremely interesting. How they play with their food, want to step up on your hand (I already have 3 chicks that will step up on command), how they greet (when they stretch one wing and one leg... that's a greeting). Their curious nature.... It's fun to watch, but you all know this already.

In an effort to minimize the effect of "chicken math" when we went to buy our chicks I set a hard limit at 12. Told the hubby he could pick 6 and I would pick 6. But in the excitement of selecting and being a new mom.... I have some chicks that I just can't remember the breed we picked. But it's ok, going on week 4 now, they are all healthy and a joy to have in our home.

They are spoiled already and don't even know it. Started out with a nice coop connected to an additional run. Hubby already says, "oh they will need more space to play" Let me build another run for them... off to the hardware store he goes... :) He's so good to me... literally!

Well... that's it for my introduction... Thanks to the admins for maintaining the site which allows us all access to such a wide range of knowledge with out judgement.
