New member.
Recently relocated to the Atchafalaya basin, inside the levee. The Atchafalaya river is in the back yard.
Haven't raised ckickens in over 30 years.
There are far more predators here than where I last had raised chickens.
There it was the occasional snake, opossum or coon.
Here, it's those plus aligators, eagles, hawks, coyotes, bobcats and more.
I haven't decided on breed yet.
Kind of leaning towards a large chicken tractor instead of a fixed coop.
I'll probably lurk a while and read the archives. I'll see what works for others and what questions have already been answered before I start with a bunch of newbie questions.

I'd recommend Just going ahead and building a coop instead of a tractor because it is easier to predator proof something that's not movable.

You're going to want to build it open air style too because it's just as hot over there in Louisiana as it is here in Texas.
