I've been summoned? Welcone to BYC AuntieEm! Don't let the others fool you, I don't know anything about feeding chicken a sufficiently motivated person couldn't pickup quickly with a little free study. I've only been doing the backyard chicken thing two years, 1 month, 2 days and started looking closely at feed maybe 8 months ago? BYC has actual experts in areas of genetics, illness, injury, and the like, plus a lot of people like me covering the rest. It would be so easy to name drop people whose opinions you should value, but it becomes obvious pretty quick who has the knowledge and experience.

Augusta GA you say? You may have some decent local milling options, in addition to the box stores like TSC/Rural King/etc
Is the four chicken thing based on zoning, or a two egg a day need for the pantry, or???

Not to encourage chicken math, but if it were just my wife and I starting over, not going in the direction we have (see me signature for our current head count), we'd probably go with six and build for 8 or 10. Once you have freesh eggs, they are just so so useful...

I've used Tucker's 18% non-GMO for a season of egg production when I had a buyer willing to pay the premium. It was adequate, but not impressive. As soon as demand dropped, I went back to a feed which does not purport to be non-GMO but made my break-even number a little more achievable and was nutritionally superior (though the ingredients were less identifiable.
