Hi! My name is DawnMarie and I’m happy to be a new member of this group and eager to learn tons of new things for my 16 chicken friends. I live in a rural area of California, with multiple predators, including coyotes, bobcats, and raccoons. I am relatively new to being the complete caregiver of chickens, but my partner has been raising them for eggs for many years. He however does not have quite the personal connection that I do with my chicken friends, and I want to learn and do the very best I can for them.
We have various breeds including Rhode Island Reds, Jersey Giants, Austalorps, Wyandottes, and a couple I’m not sure of and would love your opinions. Unexpectedly we have a rooster that is very much my friend since days old and I’m trying to spend the time with him so that he remains people friendly. He’s a small one (dark guy in below picture) one of the two that I ask your opinion on the breed. The other is a very pretty little beige and brown girl (we thought-but is attempting some crowing sounds this week) with long legs and she is definitely the most submissive with the others. They are both almost four months old.
Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for your help!
