Hello Chicken People
We just got our very first chickens. We got the day old chicks from our local co-op. I chose 3 different breeds because they were supposed to be docile and good layers. 2 Rodebars, 2 ColumbiaRocks and 2 Azure Blues. I hope the Azure Blues are both girls buy one is bigger than the other.
I live in Ontario, Canada on 23 acres with my husband and 3 Belgian Malinois dogs. I enjoy gardening and baking . I usually grow too much food and force it on visitors. Most of my baking is bread and bagels. I will eat cookies almost as fast as I can bake them so I don't do sweets that often. I am very happy to add chickens to my hobby list. I have wanted this for a few years .
Today I am just trying to figure out if the girls need a bigger box. I look forward to this adventure and to having a place to share chicken talk.
Have a great weekend

Welcome to BYC!! That box looks like a good size, and though they’ll probably want more space when they get more feathered in.

Welcome to BYC @KarinandKarma

Glad you could join us all here! Congratulations on your new chicks! Yes I agree if you are thinking they need a bigger brooder then they probably do. The more room the better as it’s saves a lot of squabbling and mess.

Good luck and enjoy your time here on BYC :frow

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Congrats on your new chicks! Definitely expand their digs. They grow fast and need at least 1 square foot or more per chick. They need room to zoom and flap, not to mention for mental and physical health.

Enjoy your babies! :jumpy
