Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

Many people keep their retired layers as pets and broody hens. They help raise the next generations.

Others process them and use them as soup hens. They have to be slow cooked to be good to eat.

The route you take is your choice to make. You could do a combination of the above and keep a few select hens to help teach the next generation of chickens you want to raise and process the rest.
